| St. Hildegard von Bingen lived in the
10th century in the upper Rhine valley in Germany. She was very gifted
in mysticism and music. Her mercy and holiness convinced her fellowmen
that she must be a saint. In the 12th century a convent was founded
in honour of her. Today this nunnery hous is the only workshop for the restoration of clerical archive material in Germany. This workshop was founded in 1974 because of the need to preserve ecclesiastical pieces of art. Five nuns specialize in this work. |

| n der Restaurierungswerkstatt von Frau Hai-Yen Hua-Ströfer in Mannheim fand Anfang März 1996 ein intensiver Kurs über Kaschiermethoden in der Restaurierung statt. Ein besonderer Schwerpunkt war die Herstellung und Verarbeitung eines sehr klebekräftigen Kleisters aus Weizenstärke, außerdem wurden Klebeprobleme an verschiedenen Materialien behandelt. Ein wichtiges Ergebnis dieser Fortbildung: es kommt auf den Kleister selbst und die Art und Weise des Einstreichens an. Frau Hua-Ströfer vermittelte mit großem Engagement und sehr gekonnt die verschiedenen Arten der Kaschierung und das Trocknen auf der Trockenwand. Die Tage waren geprägt von einer sehr gastfreundlichen Atmosphäre. | Proposal
for
a Centre of Restoration
of Buddhist Art in Asia |

| It is proposed to institute a centre devoted to preserve Buddhist paintings and scrolls. Furthermore it would restore holy scriptures, books and albums of various forms and materials. It would work for private and governmental art collections in Taiwan, China and other buddhist countries. A well-educated team of restorers would apply advanced and classical Eastern and Western restoration techniques like leaf-casting , laminating, bleaching etc. The workshop would have to be equipped to international standards. | |
